A Quote that struck my soul and stayed with me…

"I'm not interested in 'abstracting' or taking things out or reducing painting to design, form, line, and color. I paint this way because I can keep putting more things in it - drama, anger, pain, love, a figure, a horse, my ideas about space. Through your eyes it again becomes an emotion or idea."

- Willem de Kooning

Artist Statement

I’ve been drawn to fiber and fabric for as long as I can remember — I started sewing when I was seven and never stopped exploring. I love working with yarn, string, rope, and other natural and synthetic materials. Their textures and colors are endlessly inspiring. The three-dimensional qualities of these materials open up a world of creative possibility for me. There’s always something new to express.

My work brings together techniques like assemblage, ceramics, glass and painting. As I create, shapes and forms emerge that often surprise me — they bring a sense of joy, energy, and even a bit of mystery. Working as an architect, futurist, and artist, I have gained attention incorporating fiber into my work in experimental ways.  I have earned degrees from Pratt Institute, the University of California at Berkeley and Babson College.

From an early age, I was a maker. My grandmother and I made realistic crepe-paper flowers and a miniature Christmas village that expanded each year. My mother was also an influence; making time for art while raising a young family. I sketched, painted, made stained glass, created pottery and worked with fiber sewing, knitting and doing macrame throughout my school years.

Early in my career, I achieved recognition as an architect, a career that combined her passions for artistic expression, design and analysis. Earning a Masters in Business Administration led to my second career as an organizational strategist, futurist and published author. I have now circled back to my first love as a full time artist.

I am known for my painted abstractions that combine representational elements with the ethereal, mystical and other worldly. My work creates a touchstone to both natural and supernatural elements Working with paint, fiber, paper and other objects, I love the textural quality of a piece achieved through juxtaposition and layering.

I am a signature member of the National Association of Women Artists and have served on the board of the Florida Chapter. I exhibit regionally and nationally in art centers, associations, galleries and sponsored exhibitions, winning several competitive awards. My work has been featured in American Art Collector, Observica, Home & Design, and Naples Illustrated magazines. Career highlights include a solo exhibit in a prestigious venue in Naples and an art residency in Sarasota.
